The second Bay Area Multi-Cultural Real Estate Summit, BAMCRES 2008 will be held on Friday September 26, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 32083 Alvarado Niles Road, Union City, CA 94587 from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Early bird attendance fees are only $20 for the full day event. Last year's event sold out weeks ahead of time. Be sure to sign up early.

TRC Transnational Referral Certification

This course prepares real estate professionals to make and receive compensated referrals using the transnational referral system developed by the International Consortium of Real Estate Associations—ICREA. Students will learn how to integrate international referrals, resulting in increased income, into their business plans. Part one focuses on the skills needed for making or receiving referrals. Part two focuses on the procedures involved in using the Transnational Referral System developed by the ICREA.

Scott Thompson has been a Broker in the state of California for 20 years. He is the Broker/Owner of a two office residential brokerage in the Sacramento Region for 17 years that closed 500 to 700 transactions per year. He is the founder of Mortgage Resolution Services, Inc - purchased by Fidelity National Financial (FNF) in April of 2008. Scott has personally closed several hundred Short Sales between 1991 and 2008. His experience both as a broker and Short Sale professional provides him with a unique view of how to combine the need of the broker or agent to manage risk issues with the absolute needs of the homeowner to achieve a final and global settlement of a debt that was never appropriate for them. He strongly advocates the rights of borrowers who are saddled with mortgage obligations that were NEVER appropriate for them.

1031 Exchange Update

Tax Attorney Lloyd W. Kendall, Jr. will provide an overview of 1031 exchange.

Phil will tell you what he knows about these transactions -- how they differ from "normal" transactions, and what the foreign buyer or seller is thinking about--or should be. Phil Hodgens has a Master of Laws degree with a specialty in taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law. He spent six years of his youth in Rhodesia, South Africa, and New Zealand. He knows what it is like to arrive in a new land where everyone and everything is unfamiliar. He knows what it is like to find a friendly face in a faraway place. Now he is that face. Stir in a penchant for dense blocks of tiny-print tax regulations, and you have a recipe for an international tax lawyer. Phil is a past Chair of the International Tax Committee of the State Bar of California's Tax Section. Phil is a frequent speaker on a variety of international tax, trust, and estate topics to attorneys, accountants, real estate professionals, and other groups.
