Award Recipients
Each year, the Association recognizes four individuals for our most prestigious awards, REALTOR®, Rookie, Affiliate of the Year and Good Neighbor. The recipients have contributed hundreds of hours to causes that benefited the general membership and have also dedicated time to many community programs.
Don Faught - Our 2012 REALTOR® of the Year is someone who has worked tirelessly, without any expectation of thanks or reward, in the pursuit of excellence for organized real estate.
Whenever you think of a leader, Don Faught immediately comes to mind. He has a rich history of serving in leadership positions, having served on numerous Bay East committees, task forces, Board of Directors and as our association’s 2000 President. Currently serving as the 2013 California Association of REALTORS® President, Don remains active in leadership roles within the local, state and national REALTOR® communities.

Sara Mestas - Although a REALTOR® for just over a year, Sara Mestas has successfully navigated her new profession with all the attributes that distinguish a successful REALTOR®
Not only has our award winner sold an impressive number of homes this year, she serves on the Home Ownership Opportunities Committee, helps organize the monthly brown-bag roundtables and regularly attends education classes. Sara has also earned her Certified Distressed Property Expert (CDPE) and Certified Investor Agent Specialist (CIAS) designations.
Her community involvement includes representing foster children as an Alameda County Court Appointed Advocate, serving on the San Leandro Rent Control Board and graduating from the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program. She was also very active in several political campaigns.

Rick Benitez - Our 2012 Affiliate of the Year has been involved at Bay East for the past several years. After serving as the 2009 Treasurer for the Real Estate Alliance of Livermore, Rick has been active on several committees and is the current Affiliate Director on the Board of Directors.
In addition to his service at Bay East, Rick also gives back to his local community by serving as the Event Coordinator for his company’s Toys for Tots Drive and coaches Youth Granada Little League baseball and CYO basketball.
In his spare time, Rick enjoys traveling with his family.

Georgia Butterfield - Our first award winner continues to make exceptional contributions to improve the quality of life in her local community. Thanks to her efforts, thousands of children in Alameda County receive a visit from Santa on Christmas. Each year she appeals to the Real Estate community and the general public to help provide Christmas gifts for children who are in group homes, shelters, foster homes and low-income households. She does this through the Adopt An Angel program which she has chaired for the past 14 years.

The Leadership Development Committee looks for members who are involved in the Association and the community, whose ethical and professional behavior makes them role models for others in the industry. The ideal candidate is well rounded - active in both real estate and community.
Candidates are asked to complete a questionnaire detailing their real estate, education, and community involvement.
Recipients are announced at the annual Inaugural gala, local newspapers, all Bay East publications, and the Bay East website.
